Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about supplementary declarations and UK customs
What is a Supplementary Declaration (SSD)?
A Supplementary Declaration is the full customs entry that follows a simplified frontier declaration. Under CFSP / SCDP, you release the goods at the border with minimal data, then submit the complete SSD to HMRC by the 4th working day of the following month.
What is the SSD deadline?
Supplementary Declarations must reach HMRC via CDS by the 4th working day of the month after the goods were released. Missing this deadline can lead to penalties, audit scrutiny and — for repeated breaches — suspension of your SCDP authorisation.
What's the difference between CFSP and SCDP?
SCDP (Simplified Customs Declaration Process) is the CDS-era successor to CFSP (Customs Freight Simplified Procedures). The names are still used interchangeably. Both let approved traders release goods quickly at the border and submit the supplementary declaration later. SCDP is the term you'll see in HMRC's current CDS guidance.
What happens if I file my SSD late?
Late filings trigger an HMRC compliance flag. A one-off late SSD usually attracts a warning and a penalty; repeated late filings can lead to a Customs Compliance Review and, ultimately, suspension or revocation of your simplified-procedures authorisation.
Can you help with an SSD backlog?
Yes. We regularly help traders clear historic SSD backlogs — sometimes hundreds of entries — and bring them back into HMRC good standing. We work with HMRC's voluntary-disclosure process where appropriate.
What is the Final Supplementary Declaration (FSD)?
The Final Supplementary Declaration is a monthly summary that reconciles every individual SSD against your records and HMRC's data. It must be submitted within the agreed deadline each month for every SCDP-authorised trader.
Do I need an EORI number to lodge an SSD?
Yes. The EORI of the importer (or exporter) is mandatory on every CDS entry, including Supplementary Declarations. We can help you obtain one if you don't have it yet.
Do you handle goods from Turkey?
Yes. We specialise in helping Turkish businesses and individuals trade with the UK. We provide bilingual support in English and Turkish throughout the declaration and supplementary-declaration process.
How much does an SSD cost?
Costs vary depending on volume, complexity and whether we are also managing your underlying simplified-procedure compliance. Contact us for a tailored, no-obligation quote — we are transparent with our fees and there are no hidden charges.
